Department of General and Transplant Surgery

Department of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation is located in the North-East Wing of the Hospital block and has 58 beds to accommodate the patients.

Department performs a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and maintains an outpatient reception and monitoring patients after organ transplantation, both in Israel and abroad.

The Department is a leading Medical Institution of this kind in Israel and is known to use the latest techniques of laparoscopy. It annually conducts more than 1,000 laparoscopic procedures, including operations on the stomach, gall bladder, colon, surgery to remove a hiatal hernia, inguinal hernias and abdominal wall hernia, surgery to remove the spleen , adrenal gland, and surgery for obesity.

The Department operates a multi-professional team, which includes physical therapists, social worker and dietician.

Areas of the Department therapies and surgeries :

Breast surgery. The Department has a Clinic for the Conservation of healthy breast, which is specializing with early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. In this Clinic, the outpatient are receiving consultations of the leading surgeons, who advised and monitored high risk female patients and, specifically, those who is carriers of the mutation of the gene BRCA, The Clinic also is providing the treatment and medical follow-up for patients with breast cancer. The Clinic offers counseling for those women who specifically are interested in the breast cancer genetics .

Endocrinological surgery. The Unit of the Endocrinological Surgery is performing operations on the parathyroid gland using minimally invasive technology and surgical procedures on the thyroid gland. This Unit is an Israeli leader in the field of Endocrynological Surgery and each year perform up to 100 operations on parathyroid gland and up to 150 operations on the thyroid gland.

Colorectal surgery. Within Department, we also operate a Clinic which is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the colon, rectum and anus disease. As part of this Clinic, the Department offered to outpatient s any surgical treatment of the hemorrhoids and anal sphincter dysfunction. Important that the most of the large intestine resections are performed laparoscopicaly.

Kidney transplant. The Department also is performing a kidney transplant, both from the cadavers and from living donors (usually, family members). In the latter case, the donor organ harvest is made performed laparoscopicaly, which dramatically reduces post-operative hospitalization of the donor.
